To give everyone the attention they deserve, we require appointments for everything except prom.

About Madeleine's Daughter

Madeleine's Daughter first opened in downtown Portsmouth in 1975 with a small selection of wedding dresses. The original owner had a passion to help brides feel beautiful on their wedding day and genuinely cared about all her customers. Her passion for making brides happy was matched when she hired Elizabeth as a stylist in 1995, who eventually bought the salon when she retired. Elizabeth has since grown Madeleine's Daughter into the award-winning salon it is today because of her continued mission to make sure every bride has a personal and enjoyable experience that is unlike anywhere else and exceeds all expectations.

Connecting with a virtual appointment now (while regular appointments are on hold) will help you move forward in your search for the perfect dress. And it will be easier & faster to get your dress once we're back open!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your store doing about COVID-19?

Prior to closing, we implemented stringent cleaning & disinfecting policies. With this in place and by limiting the number of guests permitted with brides shopping, we were able to comply with the CDC's recommendations, and have kept both customers and staff safe & healthy. We're temporarily closed to appointments and customers with the exception of curbside pick-up of merchandise. However, our staff is still fully available to answer your calls, emails and provide virtual appointments. 

Should I continue shopping for and planning for my wedding?

That depends on your wedding date. If you have had to postpone, we empathize and want to share some insight with you in our blog post here. If you haven't had to postpone, we recommend continuing to learn and discover your options for dresses.

Have shipping times been impacted

If you haven't placed your order yet and your wedding is scheduled for August or September, we recommend doing so ASAP. If you're uncertain about ordering and want to ensure you have a dress in time, consider purchasing a sample. Find out more about the benefits of buying a sample here

When you re-open, will there be dresses for me (or my mom, bridesmaids, etc.) to try on? 

Absolutely! In fact, we're continuing to receive and check in boxes of dresses & accessories for the store every day. There will be plenty for you and your wedding party to try on when we re-open. Also, you can always check our current inventory on our website here, or book a virtual appointment of course.

I'm super stressed about all this and I just need to talk to someone - can I do that? 

Of course! We would love to connect with you and help in any way we can. No question is too insignificant. We empathize with what you're going through right now and genuinely want to help.
